Every Goldfish collector should know the answer to this question

Every goldfish pond keeper should know

the answer to this very important question:

How many gallons of water does your goldfish pond hold?

In order to help goldfish pond keepers with their goldfish pond or goldfish problem we must know the amount of gallons in their ponds. I’m very surprised of how many goldfish pond keepers just guess at the answer to that question. Guessing can cause death by over dosing or not giving enough treatment to cure the problem which also can cause death.

Here are some simple formulas you can use to determine the gallons of water in your goldfish pond:

Each cubic foot contains 7.48 gallons of water.

This is the formula you use if your goldfish pond is a Square or Rectangle:

Length x Width x Depth x 7.48

If your goldfish pond has straight sides, no plant shelves, this formula will give you the exact number of gallons in your pond. Example: 8 feet wide and 15 feet long and 4 feet deep the total gallons would be exactly: 3,590.4 gallons.

This is the formula you use if your goldfish pond is a perfect Circle:

Radius x Radius x 3.14 x Depth x 7.48

Note: the Radius is half the Diameter (distance across the middle of the goldfish pond)

If your goldfish pond has straight sides, no plant shelves, this formula will give you the exact number of gallons in your goldfish pond. Example: A round pond that is 4 foot deep, 20 foot wide (20 ft. Diameter or a 10 ft. Radius) calculation would be 10 R X 10 R X 3.14 X 4 X 7.48 the total gallons would be exactly: 9,394.88 gallons.

This is the formula you use if your goldfish pond is an Oval:

Radius x Radius x 3.14 x Depth x 7.48

Attention: the formula will look the same as a circle however the two radius sizes will be different.

If your goldfish pond has straight sides, no plant shelves, this formula will give you the exact number of gallons in your goldfish pond. Example: An oval pond that measures 20 ft. (20 ft. Diameter or a 10 ft. Radius) one way and 10 ft. in diameter (10 ft. diameter or a 5 ft. radius) the other way and 4 ft. deep. The calculation would be 10 R X 5 R X 3.14 X 4 X 7.48 the total gallons would be exactly: 4,697.44 gallons.

Irregular Shape goldfish Ponds:

Average Length x Average Width x Average Depth x 7.0

It is very difficult to figure the EXACT gallons of an irregular size goldfish pond. Average measurements must be used. Many Goldfish Pond Keepers will use 7.0 gallons per cubic foot instead of 7.48 to compensate for large rocks and round corners. Plus, it’s important to average the depth of your goldfish pond. A goldfish pond that is 3 foot in some places and 5 foot in others should be figured as an average of 4 foot.

Goldfish Pond Calculators can give you the correct answer to the amount of water in a perfect square, rectangle, circle or oval straight side goldfish pond, however when it comes to the irregular shape ponds, your accurate, average measurements are very important in determining the number of gallons in an irregular shape goldfish pond .
